SEG Workshop on MT in Mining
|
 |
Sunday, September 13, 1998
Under the auspices of the SEG Mining Committee, there was a one-day
workshop on Magnetotellurics for Mineral Exploration at the 1998
SEG annual meeting in New Orleans. The recent increase in the use
of MT in a wide variety of exploration settings has created a large
number of very recent case histories that have not yet appeared in
journal or other form. The case histories illustrate the range of
survey configurations, and data processing and interpretation techniques
that now exist for MT.
The goal of the workshop was to provide a
forum for current users of MT and to provide a review of the principles
of MT and its applications for the growing number of geophysicists who
are interested in including MT in their exploration strategies.
The workshop consisted of a 2-hour introductory review of the basics of
MT. This was followed by a series of talks selected to give a complete a
picture as possible of the current state of the art in MT applied for
mineral exploration.
